The Textile Biennial 2023. Images of Power is an international exhibition of 20 participants with high-quality and substantively strong contemporary visual art in which textile as a material plays the leading role.
The Textile Biennale 2023. Images of Power is a colorful exhibition with 20 artists from all over the world. At the biennial, the representation of power in all possible forms can be seen, which is now under scrutiny. Since the fall of the iron curtain, the world has undergone enormous changes politically, economically and socially. Black and white thinking, capitalism versus communism, the dominance of the white straight man and Western imperialist thinking have since become increasingly discussed. Propaganda and (fake) news in images and text are still powerful weapons. There is a global need for a new world order and trust in those in power.
With their work, the artists give a vision of heroes, rulers, image interpretation and propaganda, the position of genders and the power of the economic system. Sometimes they show their own heroes or depict situations in which they themselves have been part of power or abuse of power. For a large number of the participating artists, it is mainly about what image does, image as propaganda, confirming prejudice or confronting. With their work, the artists do not directly answer the pressing questions that the current era raises, rather they make room in the minds of the visitors to think about this from different perspectives.

THE PUBLIC’S FAVORITE ARTIST GETS A SOLO EXHIBITION NEXT YEAR
Also this year, visitors can indicate their favorite artist from the exhibition on a voting card. The one with the most votes will receive a solo exhibition in 2024. In this way, the public influences the exhibition program of the museum.
